A water pump assembly is a mechanical device that moves water from one place to another. It's made up of a number of components, including a housing, impeller, motor, and seal. The assembly is custom designed and manufactured to fit inside the equipment it's intended for.
Components
Housing: The mainframe of the pump that contains the fluid being pumped and supports the impeller
Impeller: A rotating set of blades that moves the fluid through the pump
Motor: The electric motor that powers the pump
Seal: Prevents water from flowing from the impeller chamber to the bearing part of the housing
Shaft: A rotatable shaft that has a bearing portion and a sealing portion
Bearing: A tubular, journal-type bearing that surrounds the shaft bearing portion
Pulley: Transfers the drive belt's movement into the bearing spindle
Spindle bearing: An important component of the water pump
How it works
A water pump uses mechanical energy to create a pressure difference, which causes water to flow. This allows the pump to move water for a variety of purposes, such as irrigation, water supply, and drainage
